THE ENCHANTED APRIL

Synopsis Matthew Barber’s Enchanted April, based on Elizabeth Von Arnim’s beloved novel of the 1920s, is a gentle and romantic comedy of manners. Against the backdrop of a country still reeling from World War I, Enchanted April offers to its characters, and viewers, a necessary balm of sunshine and renewal.  Lotty Wilton and Rose Arnott, both unhappy in their marriages, make a daring plan: they will rent a small Italian castle for the month of April. In order to reduce costs, they are joined by two other ladies in need of an escape – the beautiful Lady Caroline and the overbearing Mrs Graves. Although tensions flare at first, as the sun-drenched days go by, San Salvatore works its magic on each sad and hardened heart, helping to break down social barriers and forge new friendships.   But with the arrival of an attractive artist and two chastened husbands, will the magic of the castle be enough to help romance bloom again?
