Pride and Prejudice

When two very eligible (and very wealthy) bachelors Mr Bingley and Mr Darcy arrive in the neighbourhood, they cause quite a stir, especially in the Bennet household. Mrs Bennet believes that 'it is a truth universally acknowledged that a single man in possession of a good fortune must be in want of a wife', so she wastes no time in trying to play matchmaker to her daughters and the two rich gentlemen. But not all goes according to plan. Although the charming Mr Bingley falls for the eldest and most beautiful daughter Jane, the social divide between the Bennets and their richer neighbours causes many problems- not least with the haughty Mr Darcy, who at first refuses to see past his prejudice against the socially inferior but strong minded and intelligent daughter Lizzy. To complicate things further, the nauseating cleric Mr Collins does have his eye on Lizzy, and the dashing officer Mr Wickham has more dangerous designs on the youngest daughter Lydia. But love eventually triumphs over pride and prejudice, in an entertaining and moving story of romance and innocent passion.
